"You have to be in a corp to rat in Null Sec" - Please tell that to the myriad of capsuleers belonging to Non-Player Corporations I have come across during my forays throughout Null Sec. Often these rats are fewer in numbers/strength, and frankly, provide a better place to start for newer players who may not be ready to take on the more demanding combat found in cosmic anomalies. "Null Sec Ratting is done in anomalies" - One should not discount cruising through the asteroid belts and dealing with the rats there. Rather I mean "why not work on this document that I also have to complete for a few minutes while the miners cycle?" Mining can also be a great opportunity for socializing "Hey guys, let's mine some ore and catch up!". No, this is not condoning "AFK Mining" (which I interpret to mean "start mining, walk away, come back 30+ mins later with no intention of coming back to the game before that").

"Mining is boring!" - Mining (in any area) can be a great source of ISK for someone who may not be able to direct their full attention to EVE for a given period of time, enabling them to pursue other, better ISK-making activities during the times when they can. Many of the activities you listed as "boring" or poor ways to make ISK lack context supporting that position. A review favouring objectivity will go a long way. A great start, but a very skewed, biased perspective.
